Marian Theobald
Executive Director
External Relations
University of Sydney
Marian has been working in the higher education sector since 1990, when she became media officer at Macquarie University. Prior to that, she had worked as a teacher librarian before winning a cadetship in journalism with the Sydney Morning Herald. This was followed by a stint at the ABC, working on the late lamented consumer affairs program, The Investigators, where she learnt rather a lot about bad building work and shonky advertising practices!
Marian moved to the University of Sydney in 1995 as media officer and then became managing editor of publications, before being appointed Director of Community Engagement and taking on responsibility for areas of the University which had a strong external focus, including University Museums, the Centre for Continuing Education, the Seymour Theatre Centre and the Careers Centre, as well as communications activity. Two years ago, Marian became External Relations Portfolio Executive Director, thus broadening her responsibilities to include alumni relations and fundraising.
